Riot police repel protesters trying to block access to Mexico City airport

Youth protesters attempted to shut off access to Mexico City’s international airport on Thursday as part of a protest against the recent disappearance of 43 college students and the country's long-standing problems of crime, corruption and impunity.

Covering their faces with bandanas and masks, a group of about 500 students approached the airport on foot and temporarily blocked one of the roads leading to Benito Juarez International, before a large contingent of riot police forced them to leave.

Fusion correspondent Manuel Rueda was on the ground to speak with the protesters. Several marches are expected to take place in Mexico City today, as the country celebrates the 104th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution.

The planned protests forced President Enrique Pena Nieto to move an annual military parade normally held in downtown Mexico City to a military training ground that is off-limits to the public.
